The race for the golden boot in the Kenya Premier League is heating up as the season nears its completion. Kakamega Homeboyz striker Allan Wanga leads the race with 18 strikes so far but he is loosely followed by Sofapaka’s hitman Umaru Kasumba with 16 and Ulinzi Stars Enosh Ochieng with 16 too. For Wanga it is a true testament that age is nothing as he is now 33 years old playing in a midtable team but still finding the back of the net more frequently than any other striker in the 254.

Wanga’s form has earned him a spot in Harambee Stars preliminary squad for the African Cup of Nations tournament set to be held in Cairo Egypt from June the 21st. He has been the leader at Homeboyz this season and at one point this doubled up as their coach too, his experience proving invaluable thus far.

Umaru Kasumba has been delivering the goods for John Baraza’s Sofapaka though he has not been on the scoresheet in their last two matches. His speed and heading ability the keys to his impressive record. Batoto Ba Mungu’s next two games are against Nzoia Sugar and Chemelil, teams who’s defensive records will have Kasumba licking his lips.

Enosh Ochieng is an Enigma, prior to this season he had not scored more than 10 goals but he has taken the goalscoring charts by storm and is a very handy candidate to dethrone Allan Wanga. Like Wanga, he is also in Sebastian Migne squad for AFCON 2019. His team faceoff with Chemelil and Kariobangi Sharks in their next two league assignments.

The crown was clinched by Kariobangi Shark’s Eliud Kapaito with 16 goals last season while Gor Mahia’sJacques Tuyisenge was a close second having found the net 15 times.
