Man City captain, Vincent Kompany predicts successor but gives conditions

Vincent Kompany who is 33 years old is almost retiring and chances are high that he might be hanging the playing boots or getting other sporting ventures at the club or somewhere else.

The Belgium international has been an integral part of the squad despite being given less time on the field by the current manager Pep Guardiola.

The centre-back has pointed out that Bernardo Silva could one day be the captain of Man City, but there is something he needs to do first. His prediction comes months after predicting that Raheem Sterling would make the best captain after his exit from the club after his recent community works that he has been advocating for.

Kompany lifted his fourth Premier League title as a captain on Sunday after City clinched the title by a single point ahead of Liverpool after a 4-1 win against Brighton.

It was Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan who got the goals on the South coast but it was the skipper himself who scored perhaps the most important of all.

Manchester City was in desperate need of a goal going into the final twenty minutes in their penultimate game of the season against Leicester City when Kompany got hold of the ball 30 yards from goal and decided to leather it into the top corner.

It’s one of the most iconic goals in Premier League history and typified exactly the type of leader Kompany is.

With the 33-year-old’s future still not certain his captain’s armband may soon be up for grabs and Kompany has said that Bernardo could one day wear it, should he mature.

“I say to him often you are 50% clown, 50% leader,” the Belgian told Breaking Sport TV.

“When he becomes 25% clown, 75% leader he will become the captain of this team. He is so strong and to be honest there is nobody who deserves this title more.”

Kompany is expected to hold talks with the club on his future once the season is finished after the FA Cup final against Watford.
