Monday May 13, 2019 might have been one of the embarrassing days for ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga. The AU envoy was rudely interrupted in his own backyard when he was a giving a speech while on a familiarisation tour of the proposed Special Economic Zone’s site at Ombeyi, Kisumu County.
Rowdy residents heckled the retired Prime Minister before staging protests in what they alleged their land being grabbed.
They told Raila that his handshake with president Uhuru Kenyatta was not meant for grabbing land.
Raila had a tough time to cool the rowdy residents whose protests had already taken shape.
But when Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya took to the stage, residents appeared cool and calm, keenly listening to him as he promised them goodies.
He told them that everything was in place, and the government is in the process of acquiring a 500 acre land to kick of the construction of the industry that will create jobs for the residents.
