The immediate National Assembly ex-clerk Justine Bundi Nthiiri has passed away after a brave fight against cancer.

The late was undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

Before meeting the untimely death Bundi retired from parliament in 2017 after an illustrious career.

Later, he ventured into private businesses after taking a break from the spotlight having worked for years for different institutions.

He once served as the inaugural clerk of the regional parliament, the East Africa Legislative Assembly, Eala, in Arusha.

He also worked as an assistant to the former Speaker, Francis Ole Kapara and as a District Officer, DO.

Before the last General Election in 2017, his name was mentioned alongside other Jubilee party nominees to Eala, the region’s legislative arm, but he never made it after a fresh take after elections. Since then, he took a low profile, attending to his business as he battled cancer.

The 62-year-old administrator became the National Assembly clerk in 2012 hails from Kanoro village of Chuka Igambang’ombe in Tharaka Nithi. Earlier, he was a senior Deputy clerk at the assembly.

Among his investments are Kienji House in Chuka Town that houses Magunas Supermarket.

At the community level, Bundi was the patron of Mugwe United Football club whose vision is to nurture and dispatch football talent.

Justin Muturi, the current National Assembly speaker described Mr Bundi as a friend he knew since secondary school day.

“He will be remembered for initiating great reforms during the transition from a unicameral house to a bicameral house,” Mr Muturi said.

“We are sorry to his family for his loss. It is unfortunate we have lost a dedicated servant,” mourned Michel Rotich Sialai. He is the current national assembly clerk.

“Rest In Peace Justin Bundi, the immediate retired clerk of the Kenya National Assembly. A very humble, calm and diligent man, who was highly committed to service,” posted Isaack Mwaura, a nominated Senator who was also a nominated MP in the last parliament.

Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki and Chuka Igambang’ombe Member of Parliament, Patrick Munene Ntwiga also sent their condolences.

“At the constituency, he spearheaded various development projects and was always available to offer advice from his great experience in public service. As a county we’ve lost a key pillar,” concluded Mr Ntwiga.

“The cruel cancer disease has robbed us another member of the family,” noted Njuki. “Bundi was a hero and heroes never die. His legacy lives on.”
