Drake is the proud new owner of a converted Boeing 767 – despite once rapping about the dangers of climate change.

The Canadian shared the unveiling of the aircraft, which Airways magazine estimates is worth about US$185 million, in a video on social media captioned “Nothing was the same for real…”

Branded Air Drake, the converted cargo plane also displays his OVO Sound logo on its exterior and a golden-walled interior with plush leather chairs and couches and a bar.

But if you want to take a trip on the rapper’s airline, you’ll have to have some sort of inside connection. Looks like Drake will be keeping the 30-seat airplane all for himself.

“No rental, no timeshare, no co-owners,” the Grammy-award winner said in the video.

Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, created the personalized private plane with Cargojet, a Canadian airline. The company announced their partnership with the rapper earlier this month. “Supporting home grown businesses has always been a top priority of mine,” Drake said in a statement, “so when an opportunity came up to get involved with a great Canadian company I was honored to do so.”

Drake’s evident pride in his new toy could be said to be at odds with the concern about climate change he expressed in his 2014 song Heat of the Moment.

“And all the cops are still hangin’ out at the doughnut shops,” he sang. “Talkin’ ’bout how the weather’s changin’. The ice is meltin’ as if the world is endin’.”

Air travel is responsible for between two and three per cent of greenhouse gas emissions globally, and growing more quickly than any other sector. By 2030, it’s possible that figure could increase to as much as 10 per cent of global emissions.

Drake took his social media followers on a virtual tour of the aircraft.

Canadian company Cargojet recently announced a partnership with Drake, with CEO Ajay Virmani saying it was excited to have the rapper as its ambassador and to assist him “with his logistical needs and requirements”.
