Narok County Government has announced two-day free access to Maasai Mara Game Reserve starting June 1, which is Madaraka Day.
The Governor, Samuel Tunai, made the announcement when Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho visited the area to inspect how prepared the County was ahead of Madaraka Day celebrations which will be held at Narok Stadium.
He stated that the free entrance would be a way to mark the day.
“We want to ensure that those who had never been to the Mara have a taste of it. For the period no domestic tourist will be charged any fee,” the Governor declared.
Kibicho, who is the chairman of the Madaraka Day celebrations committee, cited that the Narok stadium was rehabilitated as a National arena and could accommodate 40,000 people.
Tunai thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for giving Narok County an opportunity to host the occasion.
He added that those who had never seen a Maasai Moran in real life would get an opportunity to interact with them as they would showcase the Maa culture during the celebrations.
On his part, Kibicho assured the public that the stadium would be ready in the next one week.
On April 14, the Tourism Cabinet Secretary, Najib Balala scraped off the entry fee at Nairobi National Park, Safari Walk and the Orphanage.
