Killer Strategies Liverpool, Man City have in store for weekend action

Will Liverpool win the title? Will Man City win the title?

Indeed, the top two teams in the Premier League are set for a nervy Sunday as this season’s title race goes down to the wire.

Liverpool trail Manchester City by one point heading into the final round of games, but with their confidence boosted by a remarkable performance in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Reds trailed Barcelona by three goals after the first leg of their semi-final tie, but romped to a 4-0 victory in the return game to book their place in the final.

They face Wolverhampton Wanders at Anfield on Sunday needing three points and a Manchester City slip-up at Brighton & Hove Albion to steal the title.

However, they are outsiders in the English Premier League betting lines to claim top spot and it’s difficult to imagine City stumbling at Brighton.

A run of 13 league victories on the bounce has left City as favourites to retain the title and they are fancied to pick up the three points they need this weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side have faced the south coast side twice this season, beating them without conceding a goal in both the league and FA Cup.

Liverpool won 2-0 at Wolves in the league earlier in the season, but they crashed to a 2-1 FA Cup defeat on a return visit to Molineux and would be well-advised not to underestimate the Midlands side.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur will fight over who will finish third as they face Leicester City and Everton respectively.

Chelsea are set to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday, meaning fatigue could become a factor at Leicester.

Spurs will be on a high after beating Ajax in the Champions League in midweek and are fancied to leapfrog their London rivals this weekend.

Arsenal face Burnley at Turf Moor with their sights set on claiming fifth place, although Thursday’s trip to Valencia in the Europa League could scupper their chances.

The Gunners are one point in front of Manchester United heading into the weekend, but Burnley can snatch a draw on Sunday.

United should beat Cardiff City at Old Trafford, although they will have to play much better than they did last week at Huddersfield Town.

The remaining fixtures have little riding on them, with teams merely jostling for final positions in the standings.

Crystal Palace may edge a tight contest with Bournemouth, while Southampton can defeat already relegated Huddersfield at St Mary’s.

Newcastle United could end the season on a winning note with a victory at Fulham, while the Watford versus West Ham United game looks a good bet to end all-square.
