Kenya Adds 4 More Years to Already Imprisoned British National

Jermaine Grant escorted by a Police Officer to a Nairobi Court

A British national already serving a nine-year sentence in a Kenyan jail has been handed a fresh four year jail term for being in possession of explosives.

Jermaine Grant was not under police watch when he was arrested alongside other suspected terrorists, Faud Abubakar and Frank Ngala.

At the time of their arrest, police drawn from The Anti-Terror Police Unit said they only captured him because he was riding on a bike with Faud.

“We did not know him. In fact, we arrested him just because he was with Fuad Abubakar. We thought he was just some local from Old Town who was enjoying a motorbike ride with Fuad,” Martin Otieno, Head of the Anti-Terrorist Police Unit in Mombasa said.

Grant, at the time, identified himself as Peter Joseph from Canada. But on close interrogation, his mask fell off.

Kenya quickly called in at least five Scotland Yard officials who would later recover explosives at the duo’s residence.

Faud, Grant and Frank were later charged with possessing explosives with the intent to commit a felony.

After being released on a Sh20 million bond, Faud would later escape to Somalia in unclear circumstances.
