Police in Makueni county are investigating an incident in which an MCA was beaten like a Burukenge by his colleagues at the county assembly in Wote Town.

Urbanus Wambua, a Wiper Party Nominated MCA, is nursing serious injuries after allegedly being beaten by Kasikeu MCA Julius Monari Tangai.

The fight started when Tangai, who is a member of the PICK party stood on the floor of the house to question whether Makueni Women Rep Rose Museu had the authority to question the activities of the National assembly.

Wambua then stood up to defend the Woman Rep and that’s when things fell apart. The elected MCA ganged up and beat him like a pickpocket.

But an insider within the assembly has revealed that the fight is deeply rooted and has something with the Kalonzo Musyoka and governor Kivutha Kibwana feuds.

“This is purely Kalonzo-Kibwana feud. Nominated MCAs from the Wiper party and those allied to Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka are getting subjected to discrimination and frustrations,” an MCA said.

It has since emerged that elected MCAs have been sidelining their nominated colleagues during assembly retreats. Last week, they were locked out of a retreat the Panari hotel in Nairobi.

According to Makueni County Wiper Chair Francis Mutuku, the county assembly leadership has been discriminating against nominated members.

“There is discrimination of the highest order in the house. This was done at the full glare of the speaker majority leader and the whip and it’s unacceptable. Nominated MCAs are getting ejected from meeting for some members to share proceeds of corruption in their absence,” Mutuku said.

Governor Kibwana, who is touted as the best county boss in Kenya, does not see eye to eye with Kalonzo. The beef started after Kalonzo declared that he was President Kenyatta’s spanner boy last year.

This was deemed as disrespect to the Kamba community. The three Ukambani governors have since been trying to charter a different political route.
