International Professor of Law Makau Mutua has applauded Education Cabinet Secretary for banning the setting up of more public universities in the country.
According to the vocal profesor, ” I applaud @GeorgeAOMagoha for scrapping plans for any more “village universities.” He should go further and cut the number of universities by more than 50% “
His comment came as soon as Prof. Matiang’i suspended any setting up of new public universities claiming that there are enough many universities which are not even sustainable.
He further directed the Commission for University Education to prepare a report regarding the status of universities, qualification of academic and support staff, supervision of students, lecturer to students ratio, and facilities and equipment for teaching.
The proposal will also help indicate the universities that are of high value and quality education meaning there will be closure of some varsities and loss of jobs.
