Does the appointment of Colonel Cyrus Oguna as the new government spokesperson have something to do with the handshake?

Well, a section of Kenyans believe Raila had a hand in the former KDF spokesperson getting the lucrative job that was ones held by Machakos governor Alfred Mutua.

ICT CS Joe Mucheru announced on Tuesday that Oguna will take over the job from Eric Kiraithe with immediate effect.

“In line with directions from the Executive Office of the President through the Head of the Public Service, the office of the Government Spokesman shall be domiciled at the ICT Ministry,” the statement read.

There was an uproar over the weekend when President Kenyatta appointed 13 out of 18 Ambassadors from the Mt. Kenya region. But in the spirit of the handshake, we have seen a Luo replacing a person from Mt. Kenya.

Some Kenyans however believe that Kiraithe, a former Police spokesperson, could be headed for a bigger role in the Jubilee government just like former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnett.

Kiraithe was appointed as government spokesperson in March 2016. He has previously worked as the general manager in charge of security services at the Kenya Airports Authority.

In a previous interview, he said that his role as police spokesperson damaged his reputation because police made him look like a liar.

“I would appear on TV saying this in the evening but someone who is on the ground sees something different,” he said.

Some people also questioned his credibility especially since he did not improve the relationship between the police and the public.
