The government has suspended registration of new public universities with immediate effect.
The Education CS Prof George Magoha says the move is informed by the existing high numbers of universities which are already too many.
“The existing universities are already too many ad not sustainable”CS Prof Magoha said.
The CS also challenged the tertiary institutions to find means of raising funds to boost education sector, and reiterated that the government does not intend to increase allocation towards the sector.
Kenyans have echoed his sentiments terming the formation of new public universities is a wastage of public funds.
