Echesa expects new Revival after the Holy Month Ramadhan

Mr Echesa’s ability to serve as a minister was questioned from all quarters, though he secured the lucrative post. When Rashid Echesa was appointed Sports and Heritage Cabinet Secretary last year, it was up to him to prove his critics wrong.

The former boxer, who was valued at Sh40 million in fixed and movable assets at the time of his appointment, was severely criticized during and after his vetting by lawmakers.

On a personal level, Mr Echesa’s often unapproachable demeanor saw him cross swords with sports stakeholders and his colleagues at Kencom House.

He was constantly in the news for unbecoming behaviour and making unprintable remarks. His obsession with rallies, funerals and other “populist” functions made him appear more of a politician with little regard for his work.

At one time, President Uhuru Kenyatta openly criticised him in the presence of Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga and many other dignitaries.

During Ramadhan, Muslims observe evening prayers known as Taraweeh. The special prayers are conducted after Isha (the daily evening’s last prayer).

In the past, the Muslims have complained of being harassed by security agencies while coming from the mosques in the evening. It is in this faith, that Rashid Echesa took to twitter wishing his fellow Muslims a happy Ramadhan. Maybe this fasting period will help him reflect on the hard times he has endured.

Countries like Saudia Arabia, Algeria, Qatar, Libya and Turkey will also start observing the holy month on Monday.Traders have started making preparations to usher in the holy month, with expectations of a business boom.
