The government is set to construct two mega dams in Kipipiri and Ndaragwa constituencies in Nyandarua County to ease water shortage for the area residents despite the graft surrounding Arror and Kimwarer dams in Elgeyo Marakwet.
The World Bank funded project which is currently at the feasibility study stage will see the Malewa and Pesi dams benefit not only residents of the county but its environs as well.
Water and Sanitation Principal Secretary Joseph Irungu noted that despite Nyandarua County being a water tower supplying Nairobi county with 60,000 cubic meters of water on a daily basis, the area residents lack adequate supply.
Irungu further stated in addition to Malewa and Pesi, more dams will be constructed across the country including in Kwale County.
Irrigation Principal Secretary Prof. Fred Segor noted the need to conserve enough water for irrigation to ensure a food secure country.
