Uproar as Uhuru appoints Another corrupt person as Ambassador

Michael Mubea

President Uhuru Kenyatta might have fired former Sports CS Hassan Wario as Kenya’s ambassador to Austria but Kenyans are questioning why he appointed EACC deputy CEO Michael Mubea to be Kenya’s ambassador to Ireland.

Mubea is viewed as one of the faces of corruption at the Anti-corruption body. He is the reason why most corruption cases are yet to be prosecuted.

In 2015, Mubea was heavily mentioned in the NYS Season 1 corruption scandal where he allegedly got millions from the proceeds.

Michael Daud & Associates Advocates, a law firm previously co-owned by Mubea was given Sh50.4 million to purchase property on behalf of the suspects. Mubea is among the senior officials at EACC who protected Anne Waiguru and gave her a clean bill.

He has also been accused of going to great lengths to impede the prosecution of those found culpable in the multi-billion scandals at Ministry of Health and the RuarakaLand Scandal.

There are also claims that corruption networks at Kenya Revenue Authority have been using Susan Mubea, a senior Assistant Commissioner at KRA and wife of Michael Mubea Deputy to maintain working relations and to shield themselves from investigations by the anti-corruption agency.

Mubea is also implicated in the sh. 5.8 billion Anglo-leasing scandal where he allegedly colluded with former Swiss Ambassador Jacques Pitteloud to con Deepak Kamani, the prime suspect of the scam the above sum and save him from prosecution.

In March 2015, then EACC chair Mumo Matemu sent Mubea on forced leave, citing integrity issues. Mr Mubea was investigated for concealing information on the acquisition of Integrity Centre, the headquarters of EACC.

But his suspension was revoked a few hours later by then EACC CEO  Halakhe Waqo. Mubea was among the front runners to be appointed CEO of the commission when Waqo’s term expired last year but President Uhuru Kenyatta opted to appoint the little known Twalib Mubarak.

So why has Uhuru given him a new job?
