A doctor has been arrested after he knowingly infected 90 people with HIV virus.
the doctor is said to have used a contaminated syringe from which he administered a deadly injection to some 65 children and 25 adults.
Police arrested the doctor after investigations proved the children’s parents tested negative.
The doctor, who is also HIV-positive is said to have been carrying out the injection in the less HIV prevalent country of Pakistan.
“We have arrested a doctor after receiving complaints from the health authorities,” said Kamran Nawaz, the local police chief heading the case in the southern city of Larkana.
“We are told that the doctor also has HIV,” he said.
Authorities were alerted after some 18 Children tested HIV positive in Pakistan.
Further investigations would later reveal dozens more of infected patients.
Police narrowed down to the doctor after it became apparent he was directly involved in the crime.
“More than 90 people have tested HIV positive and the number of children is around 65,” Dr Abdul Rehaman, a district health official in Larkana, told AFP.
“The blood of the parents of the infected children was also tested, but their results were negative,” Pechuho added.
Pakistan has one of the lowest HIV prevalence cases in the world.
