Teachers will be allowed to carry guns to the classroom should a new law be assented to.
This happens against a backdrop of a school shooting which resulted in the death of at least 17 High School students, injuring some other 14.
The suspect identified as Nikolas Cruz was arrested just an hour after he shot at students at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school.
Nikolas had been expelled from the school for disciplinary reasons.
Before the deadly shootings that were described by Florida Governor, Ron Desantis, as “pure evil,” Nikolas had posted on YouTube that he was going to be a school shooter.
Hours after the incident, President Donald Trump intimated that the 19-year-old Nikolas could be mentally disturbed.
After an acrimonious debate Wednesday, the bill was passed on a 65-47 vote tally.
The teachers will, however, to go through a 144-hour training on gun handling and safety measures.
