Kenya is not a Banana Country! GSU dispatched to Tharaka Nithi

Heavy GSU Anti-riot squad deployed to Kamaindi village in Tharaka Nithi where area chief was slashed to death on Wednesday. Expect fireworks in that area, emotions and anger direct them at the ballot.

Tension is high in a village in Tharaka Nithi after General Service Unit officers were deployed to the area following the brutal murder of area chief and a sub-county police commander.

Five suspects have already been arrested in connection with the murder of the two. Trouble started in the area after the murder of Kamaindi Tharaka-Nithi chief who was reportedly hacked to death by angry villagers.

When the police boss led officers in pursuit of the chief’s killers, he was also cornered and murdered.

The Chuka police commander Joseph Kinyua had visited the area with another police officer in pursuit of notorious villager who is said to be the one who used a panga to cut the chief’s body into pieces.

According to Muriithi Kiogora, a resident, villagers are fleeing the area by Thursday morning.

“Things are very bad here; if you have a relative here who is a man just send them fare they flee. The officers are combing the whole area,” Muriithi told this writer.

Johnson Mukieri, another resident, faulted the murder of the two administrators.“This is bringing trouble here. Now we will all suffer,” Mukieri said.

Five suspected who were arrested on Wednesday were arraigned at the Chuka Law Courts on Thursday where the prosecution was allowed to detain them for 15 pending completion of investigations.
