Arsenal’s Ozil Reveals All On Life Under Unai Emery And Confirms Plans

Ozil is currently preparing to face Valencia in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final at the Emirates tonight.

His future at the club remains uncertain as he is Arsenal’s top-earner and they need to raise funds to strengthen their squad in the summer.

However, Ozil, whose contract runs until the summer of 2021, says he wants to stay the club, although he admits the decision might be taken out of his hands.

“Absolutely. I’ve got two more years on my contract,” he told Sky Sports when asked if he wants to stay.

“I don’t know after that but I’ve got two years left.”

Asked if he was happy, the German added: “Yes. Why not?

“I’m 30 now, still got years in front of me, it’s down to the club as well of course, but I’ve got two years here – after that I don’t know what happens.”

Ozil has often been left out of the side for the big away games by Emery this term and it was previously claimed the pair had fallen out.

The attacking midfielder, though, rubbished those reports and revealed they have a good working relationship.

“No [issues with Emery]. Definitely not. There’s always speculation, everyone inside knew that our situation is positive,” he added.

“It’s frustrating [not playing]. I want to play in every game. Through injury I’ve missed games but that’s football.

“As a footballer you always want to start games. The coach makes decisions which means you may not start but you have to keep going.”

Tonight’s game is probably the most important of Arsenal’s season so far.

A top-four finish in the Premier League is now out of their hands so winning the Europa League might be the most realistic route into the Champions League next season.

Emery is aware of the importance of the game and the size of the task they face against one of his former sides.

The Spaniard won the competition twice while he was manager of Sevilla and is looking to lift it again as he searches for his first trophy as Gunners boss.

“Now it’s the Europa League, it’s both a way to win a title and also a path into the Champions League,” he said.

“We want to treat this semi-final like something important.”
