Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga silently jetted back to the country on Tuesday after the embarrassing China trip that did not yield the required results.

The ODM leader was received by ODM MPs, among them Party Chair John Mbadi and Director of Elections Junet Mohammed.

Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta were in China for the past week to ask for a loan to extend the SGR railway from Naivasha to Kisumu.

Before he traveled, he had told Nyakach residents that he was optimistic they would get the KSh368 billion loan.

But the two leaders were left with egg all over their faces after they we denied the loan, meaning the SGR will not extend beyond Naivasha.

Statehouse has released a statement saying the SGR loan was not a priority for the China trip, while sources close to Raila have said the loan will come.

Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo said on Sunday that he prayed very hard for the government to be denied the loans because Kenyans would rather have food than a railway.

Lawyer Miguna Miguna has accused Raila of trying to use the SGR to maintain his stranglehold on Luos.

During the China trip, a picture of him emerged sitting with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Personal Assistant Jomo Gecaga at the back. He was the laughing stock, as Miguna joked that he had been reduced into a PA<

Raila is also under pressure to prove how the handshake has benefited the people of Nyanza. The SGR would have been his greatest asset to do so. But with that gone, he is running out of options.
