The One Thing Granit Xhaka Admits He Can’t Understand One Thing About Arsenal This Season

Three straight humiliating defeats have kept the Gunners out of the top-four and Granit Xhaka admits that he is bewildered by their poor form of late.

Never before had Arsenal conceded three goals in three consecutive Premier League games – until the recent losses against Wolves, Crystal Palace and Leicester.

Many fans criticized Unai Emery’s side for lacking fight at King Power Stadium, a theme Xhaka picked up on.

The Swiss midfielder was left agasp by how his team let their opponents dominate them on the road.

“It is difficult to explain why we don’t play like we do at home and don’t take the points,” he said after the defeat.

“It is a different game away and at home. We have to play not like at home.

“You have to win the duels, you have to run more than the opposition because the fans are behind them.

“All the teams in the Premier League can play football and fight and if you don’t take the fight to them you suffer.

“We fight. It is not that we don’t fight.

“But it is difficult to explain. After this game or whenever you lose, it is always difficult to find the right words.”

After Ainsley Maitland-Niles was dismissed for two bookable offences, Arsenal collapsed and Youri Tielemans opened the floodgates with a smart header on 59 minutes.

Jamie Vardy popped up in the dying moments with two goals that came via intelligent movement – and slack defending.

Brighton and Burnley pose two reasonable threats in the last games of the Gunners’ season, the Seagulls in particular fighting for survival.

To make matters even tougher, Emery has to work out how to keep his players fresh for two intense Europa League semi-final legs against Valencia.

Nevertheless, Arsenal can still qualify for next season’s Champions League by winning that trophy, or by overturning the two-point gap to Chelsea.
