Ambitious Bungoma man dies after taking 5 litres of alcohol in tragic competition

A normal drinking competition has turned tragic for a Bungoma man who died Monday morning after consuming excessive alcohol.

The 28-year old and his colleagues reportedly met at a drinking den at Mukosi village in Kimilili Constituency on Sunday night at around 9pm when they embarked on a binge drinking that would later turn tragic.

According to report, the participants were handed a five-litre bottle full of chang’aa and the winner was to walk away with Ksh.1,000 only.

Margaret Waswa, a village elder confirmed that soon after the competition ended the deceased collapsed with some of the revellers opting to take him home to sleep while others fled the scene.

He was confirmed dead on Monday morning with his body being moved to Kiminini Funeral Home in Trans Nzoia County.

Police have since launched a crackdown to nab those involved in the sale of the illicit brew.

Elsewhere, five suspects who allegedly gang-rape a 13-year-old-girl in Laini village, Tana River County have been arrested.

According to DCI, Two others are still at large and being pursued by police over the crime which was reportedly committed on Sunday night.

The suspects reportedly kidnapped the minor at their home when she came out of the house in the middle of the night to relieve herself.

They then hauled her onto a waiting motorcycle to a nearby bush where they gang-raped her while holding her hands and legs apart and covering her mouth using a piece of cloth to prevent her from screaming.
