Senior Police bosses clashed Saturday over embattled former Olympic Champion Asbel Kiprop.
This is after the Athlete who serves in the National Police Service posted a sensational tweet that sent chills all over the country.
The athlete, who was banned for four years for using a banned substance to enhance his performance revealed his frustrations on Twitter, hinting that he could take his own life.
In the Saturday afternoon tweet, Kiprop demanded that the National Police Service dismiss him from the Service, claiming that he no longer had the integrity to serve.
He also threatened to use his firearm to take his own life, a remark that got Eldoret Police on the lookout.
Kiprop who resides in Elgon-View Estate in Eldoret instantly became a marked man, after police said they were tracking him after his sensational post spread through the police ranks.
One of the notable occurrences after his remarks was the statements of the newly crowned Inspector General of Police and that of his deputy.
IG Mutyambai sharply differed with his Deputy IG, in determining which way to help the distressed athlete serviceman.
While Mutyambai called for the athlete to seek counselling, the deputy IG, Joseph Kiget ,called for stern disciplinary action to be meted on Kiprop.
“We don’t condone such behaviour from our officers. Channels of addressing personal grievances are provided in the NPS rules and regulations and firm administrative action will be taken,” said Mr Kiget.
Kiprop was to on Saturday afternoon surrender himself to the Police in Eldoret after a long search.
Attempts by the media to reach out to the 2008 Olympic champion were fruitless as he neither picked calls nor replied text messages.
