Relief for Ruto as one church allows him to give donations

Even as other mainstream churches move to ban politicians donations on the altar, Redeemed Gospel Church primate Arthur Kitonga says his entity will not shut its doors to politicians who want to offer donations.

Speaking only days after the head of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Jackson ole Sapit urged churches to reject monetary donations from politicians, Kitonga said the Clergy have no right to question the source of wealth for their congregation or politicians.

“We cannot scrutinise the source of funds from leaders. That is the work of the Ethics and and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC),” Kitonga told journalists at the church headquarters in Huruma Nairobi Friday.

He said the church would not usurp the powers of EACC, as its sole mandate is to preach the gospel.

“When leaders give their offerings, the moment it enters the offering basket, it turns holy,” he said amid applause from the congregation.

The Deputy President is notoriously known for his generosity towards church donations and he has been seen doing it nationwide until his moves were calculated by his rivals who in turn blamed it to the church for accepting ‘unclean’ money.

However, the DP has in several occasions defended has move saying he was better placed donating his money to the church other than others whom he aid were taking money to itch doctors to for political gains.

Ruto defended his deeds saying that they have been taught from their young age to kneel before God, and worship him alone as the only reason he stands before men.

He went ahead to say that nothing is going to bar him and his team from serving him with their hearts and substances here implicating the money donations.
