KPL relegation battle: Who is likely to face the drop?

The race to avoid the drop in the Kenyan Premier league is heating up. Chemelil Sugar made their first step towards moving further from the dreaded relegation zone with a late winner against KCB to move them into 13th position with 28 points.

Western Stima have had a poor season by their standards and are currently in 14th place with 27 points. They have reacted by sacking head coach Paul Ogai and replacing him with former Mathare United assistant coach Salim Babu. He is a coach who is more than capable of digging them out of the hole they e currently in but the squad that he is working with may derail his plans.

Posta Rangers are only 3 points above the relegation places but can take heart from the 2-0 win in their last Premier League assignment against Zoo Kericho. They could, however, find themselves back into the drop zone as their 3 matches are against Kariobangi Sharks, Sofapaka and third place Bandari United. Shortly after those 3, they will be up against Ulinzi Stars at the Afraha Stadium.

Vihiga United are in serious danger of joining the National Super League next season. They have lost five of their last 6 matches and are currently 16th on the log with 21 points, only one better than 17th placed Zoo Kericho. Their next will be away to Sony Sugar before hosting Chemelil.

Mount Kenya Unite are almost certain of the drop as they are bottom with 15 points with rumors that players have downed tools owning to six months of unpaid salaries an allowances. Things just are not getting better for the Moses Kuria sponsored team and the table tells its tale.
