Why Hollywood star Zac Efron was in the crowd watching Tottenham vs Brighton

Tottenham vs Brighton was a big game for both sides at either end of the Premier League table.

But for neutrals it is not what you would call the connoisseur’s choice.

It was always going to be a battle of attack versus defence, with Spurs needing the points to move clear of their top four rivals at the top of the table, while the Seagulls were in desperate need of the points as they battled to stave off relegation.

So it was something of a surprise to see a Hollywood star watching on in the stands.

What was happening on the pitch was in need of some intervention from the Greatest Showman as the Lilywhites struggled to wear down a stubborn Brighton side in the presence of actor Zac Efron, caught on camera watching on at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Efron’s appearance caused a stir with some fans, who believed the American film star to be an Arsenal fan, having been spotted at a game at the Emirates once wearing a Gunners shirt.

Efron is over in the UK promoting his new film Extremely Wicked, in which he plays the role of famed serial killer Ted Bundy.

And Efron admitted back in 2014, during a predictions game with BBC Sport’s Mark Lawrenson that he likes to watch a game when he is in this country.

The film star said back then: “I get to a few LA Galaxy games, but not enough. It’s fun and the sport is really starting to grow in the United States.

“I saw David Beckham play a few times and watched a game next to him, which was awesome. He is a great dude.

“When I am in the UK, I always try to get to a game. I saw Arsenal play Chelsea in 2012. The chants you have here are insane – like a long poem that every single person knows. It is a little different to baseball.”
