How Tanga Tanga Killed Ruto’s State House Dream

“Hii kijana anaitwa Ruto unajua kila weekend anatangatanga kila mahali… atakua anapitia hizi machorochoro”

These were the words of President Kenyatta at a function in Embakasi in July 2018. It gave birth to the term Tanga Tanga, which has been used by Ruto’s camp.

In 2018 alone, Ruto made more than 300 whistle-stops across the country as he engaged his campaign gear. At one time, he attended fundraisers in Elburgon, Nakuru, Eldoret and Kimilili on the same day.

One newspaper claimed in 2018, that the 2022 race was shaping out to be a one horse race. Nobody would cover the ground that Ruto had covered.

It is during this time that the anti-Ruto crusaders decided to device several ways to stop tame the run away man. He was not going to stroll to State House.

And that is how the anti-corruption debate started. Almost every politician condemned Ruto’s generous church donations. These was further strengthened by him defending the players in the infamous Dams Scandal.

Church politics have taken center stage in recent times, with the Catholic church banning political fundraisers. Ruto wouldn’t have wished for 2019 to be this bad.

He started early campaigns, He thought Kutanga tanga kila mahali would propel him to StateHouse but it just invited attention and now everyone is working to bring him down.

Several people have questioned Ruto’s decision to start early campaigns. Politics is a race, you have to be smart Ruto has definitely not been smart.

He has played all his cards and it is time for opponents to rip him apart.
