Likoni OCS shoots woman dead and kills himself amid bar quarrels

A senior police officer attached to the Likoni Police Station on Thursday night shot a woman dead before turning the gun on himself.

According to witnesses, the Likoni Deputy OCS Joab Omondi picked a quarrel with the woman identified as Peninah Kaimenyi at Lovely Bar before shooting her dead.

The two were said to have arrived at the bar at around 10pm before ordering drinks but later on disagreed over an unknown issue.

“It was reported by a good Samaritan that there was a shooting incident at Soko Mjinga area in Mtongwe location about 3kms north of the station,” read part of the police report at Inuka Police Station.

Police rushed to the scene and established that Inspector of Police Joab Omondi of Likoni sub-county and attached to Likoni Police Station as the Deputy OCS was involved in the incident.

“From a reliable source, the officer picked a quarrel with one Peninah Kaimenyi aged 25 years at Lovely Bar. The officer shot the lady in the head, before turning the gun to himself,” police said.

The woman was rushed to the Coast Provincial General Hospital for treatment where she succumbed to the bullet wound injuries.

The officer’s firearm, a Ceska pistol was recovered with 11 rounds of ammunition at the scene.

The bodies of the two are at Coast Provincial General Hospital mortuary as investigations go on.
