Nairobi Women Representative Hon Esther Passaris has revealed that she will spearhead the autism awareness in the country.
Speaking in Kasarani, Nairobi on Saturday, Passaris urged Kenyans to step up to empower people living with autism so they can contribute to their communities.
Autism refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviours, speech and nonverbal communication according to the Centers for Disease Control.
The month of April has been used to raise autism awareness.
Autism affects children’s abilities. Those affected face discrimination, segregation.
“My Office is pleased to announce a sponsorship of Sh500,000 courtesy of NGAAF Fund to Step Up 4 Autism Org to raise awareness about autism and to offer therapy services to children. Let’s work together to empower people living with autism so they can contribute to their communities.” stated Passaris.
AT the same event Mr and Ms Light of Autism Kenya 2019 was crowned.
