Mustafi’s error proves costly as Palace end Arsenal’s winning run

Arsenal’s 10 matches winning run at the Emirates was cruelly brought to an end by a spirited Crystal Palace who were 3-2 victors on Sunday. Following Thursday’s Europa League victory away to Napoli, Unai Emery fielded a changed side that included Shkodran Mustafi, Carl Jenkinson and Mohamed Elneny and the performance from the team was lethargic at best.

The Gunners struggled to make any chances in a poor first half display and went behind when Benteke headed in from a free-kick to ensure that Palace went into the break leading. The second half saw Unai Emery bring on Alex Iwobi and Maitland Niles and Arsenal were back on level terms immediately after restart through Mesut Ozil.

Palace would, however, go ahead minutes later after a Mustafi error allowed Wilfred Zaha a run on goal and he coolly slotted the ball past a helpless Leno but they were not done yet. A corner kick was headed past Leno for a 3-1 lead Arsenal seemingly out of ideas.

By the time Pierre Aubameyang scored his 19th goal of the season, it was already too little too late for the Gunners who will feel they have missed a real opportunity to boost their top 4 hopes.
