Gor Mahia hits a stump on their run for the top spot chase

GorMahia had confirmed his fear as they faced Ulinzi Stars in a bid to contend for the Kenya Premier League top spot and true to his words their hopes to go top were soiled.

The proceedings came just days after Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachiervowedtocrack whips on adamant players for a go-slow before the team travelled to Morroco for a CAFmatchwhich saw them bow to a 7-1 aggregate.

Enosh Ochieng’s 58th minute contested penalty saw Ulinzi Stars hold champions Gor Mahia to a 1-1 draw at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu and slow down K’Ogalo’s march to the top of the Kenyan Premier League standings.

Star player, Dennis Oliech had given Gor the lead with a sumptuous finish two minutes after the restart, but Ochieng stepped up to convert a penalty after he had been impeded by Geoffrey Ochieng.

The second consecutive draw for Gor sees them remain second in the standings with 46 points, two behind leaders Sofapaka who won 1-0 away to Sony Sugar earlier on Sunday.

However, Gor has four matches at hand due to their involvement in the CAF Confederations Cup making it up to six matches to the end of the season which they can capitalise on to go top of the league.
