The nation woke up to sad news that Jonathan Toroitich, the son of former president Daniel Arap Moi died on Friday evening in Nakuru.

Ex-President Moi’s Press Secretary Lee Njiru confirmed Saturday while it was not immediately clear what caused Mr Toroitich’s death.

Honorable Gideon Moi released a family statement following the death announcement.

He revealed Jonathan was an amiable, social and down-to-earth and industrious human being.

“We are distraught as a family and we ask for your prayers and seek your understanding and indulgence to allow us to mourn privately,” he stated.

“To Your Excellency former President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, your family and friends, I have received the news this morning of the passing away of my friend and brother Jonathan Toroitich Moi with great shock and disbelief.” – President Uhuru Kenyatta via State House tweeted.

Uhuru added that JT, as Jonathan was popularly known to many of us, was a humble, kind, generous and courageous person expressing that JT’s word was always his bond as he was dependable.

Jonathan Toroitich Moi was a former rally driver. He participated fully in many rally tournaments such as Caltex Equator Rally which was held in Nairobi Kenya. Thereafter, he maintained a low media profile.
