Why Tottenham star Son will miss the first leg against fire breathing Ajax

The UEFA clash pitting Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspurs will remain edged in the minds of both sides for two opposing reasons; a loss for one side and a win for the other.

But as it remains a team affair, its also an individual one on a different side, especially for the players who made their big contribution to the results.

City will hail their striker, Sterling for his contribution while Tottenham will have a place in their hearts to praise their South Korean Son Heung-Min who scored three goals in both legs to see his side go through to the semi-finals where they will fae fast rising sideAjax who saw out Real Madrid and Italian side Juventus.

It will be Tottenham Hotspur who play in the Champions League semi-finals and not Manchester City after the Londoners won a remarkable tie at the Etihad Stadium.

Son has on different times and occasions proved that he can fit in the shoes of his captain HarryKane who is out on an injury he picked against City in the thefirst leg of the Champions League in his absence

Leading 1-0 from the first leg, they made it through on away goals after a frankly ridiculous second clash at the Etihad Stadium ended 4-3 to City.

In the injury absence of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min was a key figure in the astonishing Spurs success, as he followed up his first leg goal with a brace inside 10 minutes as the game exploded in the first period.

But unfortunately for the Tottenham fan, Son won’t play in the first leg against Dutch giants Ajax after he picked up a suspension, a matter which has been a source of debate for Spurs fans.

Having been booked twice in this season’s competition previously, the 48th-minute yellow card received by the South Korean took his tally to three for the tournament, triggering a one-game ban.

All yellow cards are now wiped after the quarter-finals, but only for those who didn’t already have two to their name coming into this stage of the tournament. A third one was always going to trigger a suspension.

And when he was informed of his ban by Sky Sport in Germany after the game – as captured by journalist Archie Rhind-Tutt – Son could only respond with a heartbreaking “I didn’t know!”

Ouch.Oh well, at least he’ll have the second leg.

Ajax will also be without first-choice left-back Nicolás Tagliafico.

The first leg is at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday, April 30while the second leg takes place in Amsterdam at the Johan Cruyff Stadium on Wednesday, May 8.
