Government rescues displaced Solai victims

The Kenya Red Cross has today handed over 37 new houses to families that had lost their shelter to a tragic dam burst in Solai in May 2018 that saw over 40 people lose their lives.

The houses have been constructed with funding from the Kenyan Government as a project to cover for those who were displaced.

The Kenya Red Cross Society has also rehabilitated a water supply system in the area that hasn’t been functional for the last 10 years. Approximately 10,000 people will benefit from the water system.

During the handing over, a Community member expressed immense joy at finally being able to live in his new house, saying that he had been living in a rented house for close to a year now.

In February, the Secretary General Dr. Abbas Gullet took some time to interact with families that were affected by the Solai Dam Tragedy in Nakuru.

The Kenya Red Cross with funding from the Kenyan Government rolled out a shelter reconstruction programme in the area after the devastating Patel Dam tragedy which claimed the lives of 48 people and displaced over 2,500.
