After an humiliating 3-0 thrashing by Barcelona on Tuesday night, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singled out Kenyan fans in his press briefing.

Solskjaer spoke during the post-match press briefing after being presented with a belated good luck Maasai stick by a journalist who claims he brought it from Kenya.

Solskjaer graciously accepted the gift and when asked to give a message to the Kenyan fans after the team’s disappointing performance, he said:

“There are lots of fans all over the world for Man United. Of course, we are disappointed tonight. That is the big thing that we’ve not really managed to put a very very good team for the cup.”

Lionel Messi inspired Barcelona to a 3-0 win on the night during the match played at the Nou Camp for a 4-0 aggregate victory.

Nevertheless, Solskjaer, who admitted his side are well short of the level required to compete at the top, says there will be ‘additions’ this summer.

“If we want to get back to Manchester United’s true level, true traditions, we have to challenge Barcelona,” said Solskjaer.

“They were a couple of levels above over the two games.”

Messi scored two goals in four first-half minutes, with Philippe Coutinho adding a stunning long-range third in the 61st minute.

United struggled to contain their opponents and had just three shots on target over the two legs.

Speaking to BT Sport, Solskjaer added: “Lionel Messi is top quality and he was the difference, of course. At 2-0 straight after, it was game over. Messi showed his quality.”

United are interested in signing Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho but he’s valued at over £100million and the Bundesliga giants are reluctant to let him go this summer.

Right-back, left-back and central midfield are also a priority, while an extra midfielder may be needed if both Juan Mata and Ander Herrera depart when their contracts expire in July.
