Vincent Kompany’s future at City is guaranteed

Manchester City’s captain has been an integral part of the team for the last ten seasons and as he enters his late days of his playing career, his future at the club is big talk.

The club wants him to remain even after his contract ends with them, but he has since come out clear that he will be around come next season.

The big Belgian is City’s longest serving player by far he has spent ten years with the club and has been rewarded with a testimonial match next season.

But there has been some speculation over the future of the Citizens captain, who will be a free agent at the end of the current campaign.

Reports have claimed the 33-year-old is set to sign a contract extension to remain at the club for a further year, although manager Pep Guardiola has insisted he will not be given a new deal for ‘sentimental reasons’.

However, Kompany has told talkSPORT he is confident he will still be a Man City player next season.

Speaking to Jim White about his future, the City legend said: “Oh yeah, I’ll be playing next season.

“I’m part of the family now, so we’ll deal with this situation as a family.

“We might agree or disagree but it won’t change any of the relationships between me and the club.

“But it’s not a priority right now, one guarantee is that I will be playing and trying to win more trophies.”

Kompany has endured his fair share of injury troubles in recent years but the veteran defender has been a steady presence in the side this term, making 25 appearances in all competitions.

And the Belgium international says he is keen to keep competing at the top level in a City shirt for as long as he can.

“I enjoy facing the challenges in the Premier League and Champions League and I enjoy playing against and with players of such quality as well,” he added.

“When you get to the twilight of your career you enjoy it twice as much, and that’s what I’m doing.

“Behind the scenes, I just keep grafting on and it allows me to be able to come into games and enjoy doing a job for the team. I’m really enjoying every minute at the moment.”
