This is the Takataka song ‘brewing love and hate’

Government bans Takataka song for degrading women

Takataka song by upcoming rapper Alvindo recently went viral attracting a lot of hate and love in equal measures.

Kenya Film Classification Board chairperson Ezekiel Mutua has officially banned the viral song saying that the song is a ‘trash’ as the name suggests.

The KFCB boss took to Twitter on Tuesday, April 16, to dismiss the song which has been on airwaves since January 2019.

According to Mutua, the song was not only degrading to women, but it could also be summed up as “trash”. “The KFCB has made a decision to restrict the song Takataka by Alvin aka Alvindo.

The song produced by Fast Cash MusicKe is restricted due to its obscene and degrading lyrics that advocate for violence against women by equating them to trash,” a tweet from the KFCB boss said.

Mutua further stated the restriction was made possible because the song was never submitted to the board for examination and approval as dictated by Section 12 (2) of the Films and Stage Plays Act CAP 222.

The KFCB boss, however, did not explain why he decided to restrict the song more than 120 days since its initial release, although the unfortunate wave of violence on women might have played part in the move.

In Alvindo’s song, the little-known rapper distinctly condemns his alleged ex-girlfriend to death as he says he would attend the funeral to sneer and celebrate her death.

The derogatory lyrics ironically went viral in January 2019 and while it was funny at the time, it looks like there were some elements who actually lived up to the lyrics.

Alvindo has since gone on record to admit that he released the song at the back of a heartbreak as an outlet for his true feelings.

Incidentally, the song was also released just as mainstream local artists were pushing for the playing of Kenyan music on radio, and the fact that such a single was released did not help their cause much.
