Professor Makau Mutua put a challenge in the rising debate that has followed Deputy President William Ruto’s allies losing their bodyguards.

“ONLY 9 members of Congress and senators — out of 535 — are protected by official bodyguards. But every Kenyan legislator is protected by several policemen. A waste of resources — withdraw all so-called VIP security,” he tweeted.

In response, Honorable Richard Onchoka, Kitutu Chache South MP revealed that he hasn’t had a bodyguard for a whole year and truthfully has realized that an MP doesn’t need one.

Another claimed most of those policemen just patrol towns collecting bribes from bars and changaa dens, pool tables, drug dealers, meaning extra police will lead to extra bribes.
