‘Sisi tukauliwe uko ama!’ Kenyans slam GoK for leaving its own people in danger

Following the unfortunate abduction of two Cuban doctors based at the border county of Mandera, the government has recalled all Cuban doctors who had been posted to hospitals in neighboring counties of Garissa, Wajir, Lamu and Tana River Counties back to Nairobi due to security concerns.

This has however raised concerns on the security of other medical personnel left.

Doctors Landy Rodriguez (a surgeon) and Herera Correa (general practitioner) were on Friday abducted in Mandera town by alleged Al-Shabaab insurgents.

According to Police Spokesman Charles Owino, the two doctors were abducted and their bodyguard killed while on their way to work.

According to Citizen, four Cuban doctors who had been posted to hospitals in Lamu and Tana River counties arrived in Nairobi on Monday morning.

Two of the doctors — Dennis (family medicine doctor) and his colleague Liliana Kaso (orthopedic surgeon) — had been posted at the King Fahad Hospital in Lamu while the other two were at Hola District Hospital, Tana River.

Medical personnel in Kilifi County have since demanded security to be beefed up in health facilities following the incident.

However, many Kenyans were not amused with the latest move by the government to leave their own exposed.

Everyone needs to be secure. The foreign doctors, the Kenyan doctors and citizens. Media reports highlight issues.— Mwalimu Wa Nguo (@clothingteacher) April 15, 2019

What about those insecure Kenyans?— yule mmoja tu (@OmwegaMo) April 15, 2019
