Why Solskjaer Will Not Use 1999 ‘Miracle’ To Tackle Barcelona

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has declined to use the 1999 Champions League triumph in his team-talks ahead of Barcelona’s clash.

The Red Devils are 1-0 down from the first leg of their quarter-final at Old Trafford last Wednesday, however, Solskjaer is still optimistic of his side’s chances of progressing.

The Norwegian was a hero at the Nou Camp twenty years ago when United overturned a 1-0 deficit against Bayern to win the tie 2-1 which completed the famous treble for Sir Alex Ferguson’s tutored side.

Nonetheless, Solskjaer has revealed he will not use that famous victory in 1999 to motivate his side ahead of the return match.

“No I won’t (mention the 1999 win) because it was against Bayern Munich. It was a final, it was different,”

“We will use the PSG match, we will use Juventus away, we have beaten some good teams away from home this year and played against some great players.

“We had (Barcelona) flustered at times here as well. Yes, they controlled the game towards the end, they had the possession but they never really bothered us in our own half.”

United will be aiming to replicate their famous comeback against PSG after overturning a two-goal deficit at the Parc des Princes to book their spot in the last eight.
