Kilifi County launch pilot project to provide 1,500 households with solar energy

Earlier today, Kilifi County signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Energy for Impact, an implementing partner of the Swedish Government through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), towards the implementation of the energy and cash program, commonly known as Mwangaza Mashinani.

The project is funded by the (SIDA) and leverages upon the existing Social Cash Transfer Program by providing conditional cash transfer to a targeted 2,000 beneficiary households in Kilifi & Garissa Counties as a top up to their existing cash transfer programs

This project is aimed at providing vulnerable households with an opportunity to access and own solar lanterns & home solar systems.

Solar lanterns will help improve livelihoods from savings on reduced expenditure on energy, well as increase study time for school going children.
