Kikuyu elders give ultimatum for 2022 election

Politicians from mount Kenya region have been warned by the council of elders of disrespecting the head of state.

Speaking National vice chairman of the Kikuyu Council of Elders David Muthoga called on leaders to wait for official campaign time.

 “But you cannot be going around the country insulting the President then expect support from the community,” he said.

The elders state that the community will only support that candidate who will be loyal to Uhuru Kenyatta.

This comes barely a week after the head of state urged politicians to stop early campaigns and concentrate on development agendas.

Statements associated with the 2022 elections have dominated political gatherings in recent months, particularly those attended or convened by Deputy President William Ruto.

The President said Kenyans need service from those they elected to serve them and there was a need for calm on the political front until the next polls.

“We have elections every five years. Why can’t we wait for the next elections,” said the President as he called for national unity.

President Kenyatta said the objective of improving the lives of all Kenyans cannot be achieved if there is disunity among political leaders.

“Kenyans want service from those whom they elected. Leaders should respect each other because when it comes to development it is for all of us,” said the President.

A section of leaders from Baringo county led by Tiaty Member of Parliament, William Kamket, have also warned leaders allied to deputy president, William Ruto, to brace themselves for a hot political contest that will incorporate President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of the 2022 presidential elections.

The leaders say KANU supports the current steps taken by president Kenyatta towards developing and uniting the country than engaging in early [politics.
