MCA says he was just at the right place at the wrong time

“It was just a coincidence. I went to the hospital to view the man’s body since he comes from my ward. By the time the commotion started, I was away,”  he said. He added that the theft happened successfully, thanks to the delayed response by the police.

St Akidiva Memorial Hospital administration is claiming that Ragana Oruba MCA Malan Ogenga on Thursday, led a group of goons that raided the hospital and stole the body.

He added that the goons who were armed with crude weapons threatened to beat up the hospital’s staff should they interfere. According to the hospital’s General Manager, Ledmonton Pete, the incident happened at around 9.15 am. He said that the group loaded the body into a truck and left.

“They came in at around 9.15 am. They just pushed the gate and forced entry. Some jumped over the fence. They took the stretcher, went in the morgue and carried the body away. They put in a truck and threw away the stretcher,” Pete told reporters.

But the MCA has denied the claims, saying that though he was at the facility, the incident happened when he was already gone.

The hospital says that the man whose body was stolen died on the same day he was brought in, adding that the facility lost millions of shillings after some patients used the commotion to escape with unpaid bills.

“During that time, eight patients who were almost being discharged escaped through the crowd without paying medical bills. The hospital has lost a lot of money from the incident,” added Pete.
