Uncertainty still surrounds Gor Mahia’s journey to Morocco for the return match of the CAF Confederations Cup quarter finals against RS Berkane, after hitting a snag on Thursday evening when the team was initially scheduled to jet out.

The K’Ogalo delegation waited at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi in vain, with the Ministry of Sports failing to honor air tickets promise.

According to Team Manager Jolawi Obondo, Chairman Ambrose Rachier had received an itinerary from the Sports, Cultures and the Arts Ministry stating that they would fly aboard Qatar Air at 17:30 hrs, but the Airline said they had not been contacted.

‘’After the Airline said we had not been booked to travel with them, we went back to our training base to continue with preparations. Even this morning (Friday), we were at Camp Toyoyo training as we wait for the final communication,’’ explained Obondo.

In a rejoinder a short while later, team Secretary General Ben Omondi said they had received communication from the government indicating that the tickets would be ready by Friday 14:00hrs, and departure set for 17:30 hrs.

Omondi explained that there was a little confusion that caused the delay but are hopeful the team will leave on Friday evening.

’There was a little misconstrue yesterday but things have been sorted out and hopefully we are leaving this evening aboard Qatar Airways,’’ Omondi offered.

A daunting task awaits the Kenyan champions, needing an outright 3-0 win away to sail through to the semis following the 2-0 defeat at home last week.

The match kicks of Sunday April 14, at 22:00 hrs EAT.

In an Earlier interview, coach Hassan Oktay attributed their first leg loss to misfortune. He was among those suspended for the first leg and watched from the terraces.
