Tension is high at Moi University in Eldoret after a final year medical student was hacked to death on Tuesday morning.
According to witnesses, Ivy Wangechi, had concluded doing ward rounds at the Moi Teaching and referral hospital at around 10am and was walking outside the institution with her friends when unknown assailant accosted her from behind before she fell.
Police have since arrested a suspect only identified as Kinuthia, in relation to the incident.
The middle aged man allegedly sliced the deceased’s kneck with a knife before hacking her with an axe.
The University VC Isaac Kosgei confirmed that Ivy Wangechi died after being rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).
“It is a very sad day for us. This morning we lost one of us to an attack by an unknown assailant….We are working with the security forces to piece together what happened and we will update you in time…I want to request all of you to remain calm,” he said.
Eldoret West OCPD Zachariah Bitok later addressed the students saying they would investigate and ensure justice is served.
