Raila hunting for Kalenjin support? Here is what they discussed

ODM leader Raila Odinga on Monday, met a section of Kalenjin leaders to discuss issues ranging from agriculture to building bridges.

This comes a few days after ODM lost terribly in Ugenya and Embakasi which ODM leaders had termed it as a fight between Raila and Ruto. Ruto won.

The handshake is now shaking Baba and meeting Kalenjin leaders might just be a way of trying to reclaim himself.

The 2022 succession politics are on with everyone holding their breath not knowing who to vote.

After series of attack to Ruto by Raila on cases of corruption in Kimwarer and Arror dams, some Rift Valley leaders said it is politics targeting their spokesman, the Hustler.

The Kalenjin leaders that met Raila, however, are not ‘strong’ leaders and in one way or the other, cannot mobilize the tribe.

But with Raila’s memo, he said he was talking on the basis of improving the lives of the people of Rift valley through agriculture.

Raila while at it, told DP Ruto to seek answers from President Uhuru if he feels targeted in the graft war.

The ODM leader who declined to go into detail about his war of words with Ruto explained that any links to corruption on Ruto were by effect tainting the presidency.

“I don’t want to talk about Ruto. If he feels that he is being targeted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), then he should ask the President,” Raila said.

This comes weeks after Ruto allies accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of being used by criminals and politicians to advance a political agenda.

The over 15 MPs drawn from the Rift Valley region said the attacks on Ruto stemmed from the ongoing 2022 succession debate.

KANU Secretary General Nick Salat and nominated MP Wilson Sossion were among the leaders summoned at Raila’s Capitol Hill office.

But netizens representing the Kalenjin tribe blasted Raila for summoning ‘wrong’ leaders of KANU era who do not represent Kalenjins.
