Ugenya MP-elect David Ochieng has finally revealed the trick that he used to win in the Friday’s by-election, after successfully petitioning against Chris Karan’s election.

Speaking on Citizen TV Monday night, he said that his direct contact with the people enabled him to beat Karan who was seeking to retain the seat on the popular Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
He explained that he used a local mode of politics, by appealing to the common citizens at the grassroots level, enabling him to win their support and consequently votes.
“Politics is local. We ran a very local campaign and spoke to our people. We went to the women, school going children and the young people of Ugenya,” he said.
The former ODM member added that he and his team addressed the real issues the people wanted to be addressed and briefed them on how he intends to tackle their problems.
“We decided to narrow down to service delivery, things that touch the hearts of the ordinary person in Ugenya,” he added.
His win came as a shock to many, judging by the heavy campaigns ODM mounted in the region, led by Siaya Senator James Orengo.
The campaigns were on one occasion attended by party deputy leader Wycliffe Oparanya, and the party was seen to rely more on rallies and roadside campaigns.
