Chelsea Statement After Danny Drinkwater’s Arrest

According to the Sources, Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater was ‘arrested’ following a drink-driving incident.

The Sun published a quote from Cheshire police, saying:

A 29-year-old man from Nether Alderley was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

He is currently in custody assisting officers with their inquiries.

Drinkwater was reportedly in a crash, which lead to a fence being flattened.

The Chelsea midfielder was travelling after attending a charity event.

No-one was hurt in the incident.

The Blues released the following short statement:

We are aware of reports but we will want to establish all of the facts before commenting.

Drinkwater, 29, has been a fringe player at Stamford Bridge ever since joining from Leicester in 2017.

Drinkwater hasn’t played in the Premier League this season.

It’s since been confirmed that Drinkwater has been charged by police.

The footballer will appear in court on May 13.

What will this mean for Chelsea career? The midfielder is under contract with the Blues until 2022, but the club will probably want him long gone before then.
