Man from hell chops wife with Jembe, cuts son before hanging self

Residents were left in shock after a middle aged man from Nyairoko village in Mawingu location, Ol Kalou killed his wife, critically injured his son and hanged himself Sunday morning.

Justin Ndung’u, who is said to be in late 40s killed Monica Muthoni, 43, and injured Maina Ndung’u, 29, using the same jembe he used to chop Muthoni’s head.

Maina had rushed to the house after hearing their mother screaming in pain calling for help. But he did not go past door frame as he was cut with the jembe on the head.

He was rushed to J.M. Memorial Hospital, Ol Kalou, where he was immediately referred to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital.

After cutting his son Ndung’u locked the door from inside and continued chopping his wife’s head with a jembe.

He dared the neighbours who ran to answer to the distress call that the same fate awaited whoever would attempt to break into the house.

After killing his wife, he hanged himself using a rope even as tens of neighbours stayed outside confused on what to do.

The couple’s son, Peter Njuhiga said the family had been peaceful and there was no sign of danger prior to the crime which was committed at 9am. Njuhiga,19, said he woke up and prepared tea for the family after which he left for Captain township.

He left his father preparing to attend local Kenya Assemblies of God Church where he fellowships, while his mother was sorting maize preparing to cook Githeri.

He would later be called by a neighbour identified only as Mama Wambui, urging him to hurry back home as something was not right.

This is not the first time the father of seven has brutally attacked his wife. On January 1, 2018, he attempted to kill her with an axe where she sustained three deep cuts in the head.

She was hospitalized at Nakuru provincial hospital and Ndung’u was taken to Court and remanded at Nyahururu.

Reports indicated that the couple had been separated for 11 years and only came back together in 2015 when their first born daughter was getting married.

The separation was caused by Ndung’u’s attempt on Muthoni’s life where he had again, cut her in the head. Then they were living at Eldoret.
