Three suspected robbers were on Monday, April 8 gunned down by detectives in Machakos county.
The robbers came up with a smart disguise to rob unsuspecting motorists as they posed as traffic policemen along the Machakos – Kitui road.
According to reports from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) two suspects managed to flee after engaging actual police in a brief gun battle.
Interestingly, the five performed traffic duties as usual along the fairly busy road, and it was virtually impossible to suspect them to be robbers. Detectives who confronted them ordered them to surrender but they ended up firing at the officers who in turn fired back, managing to neutralise three of the suspects.
“When Detectives commanded them to surrender-instead they fired at the officers. 2 Escaped;Pistol, ammunitions & Vehicle were recovered,” a statement from the DCI read. One victim who fell for the fake traffic cops was found handcuffed by detectives although he was unharmed.
Meanwhile, there is a vicious man hunt for the two other suspects who managed to escape on foot.
